Frequently asked questions
The cost to upgrade an electrical panel can vary depending on the size of the upgrade and specific requirements, but typically upgrading from 100A to 200A will cost an average of ~$3500 or more, depending on the specific installation requirements. Upgrading to a 400A service can cost significantly more due to the additional requirements for equipment, wire and parts. Factors like the the complexity of the job, and local permit and utility fees also affect the final price.
It's best to request an inspection for a more accurate estimate based on your situation. Estimates are free! The good news is that upgrading your electrical service also increases the value of your home as it is desirable for many people to have access to all of the power they need for future home projects, renovations and additions.
For some small jobs, like changing electrical outlets and switches, testing and troubleshooting, replacing breakers and emergency issues, a licensed electrical contractor like Einstein Electric can do this work without a permit, a homeowner cannot. When you start getting into larger jobs, such as adding new circuits or altering the wiring of the home in some way, then permits are required. Before we come to do any work like this we will pull an electrical permit for the property and handle inspection process.
This protects not only your safety, as the work is inspected both by us and the electrical authority, but it also protects your home or business insurance from being voided due to unlicensed / unpermitted electrical work.
Unfortunately not. Homeowner's permits do not allow for us to assist you with any electrical work that falls under the permit. They are meant for the homeowner themselves to do the work, without compensating anyone for help.
If you live in a strata building, then you are required to hire a licensed contractor to do any electrical work as homeowner's permits are not issued for strata properties.
For small jobs like troubleshooting household wiring and repairs, we can usually come and do the work promptly as no permit is required for us to do some of the little things (or respond to emergencies).
For jobs that require a permit, like adding additional wiring to a home, upgrading a panel, or roughing-in a new basement development, the wait time depends on which municipality you live in.
Surrey, Burnaby and Vancouver have their own permitting process which can take anywhere from 1 to 5 days to get a permit approved and begin the work. Other municipalities that fall under Technical Safety BC's permit authority are generally approved faster.
Yes, we do small jobs. If you have a minor nuisance electrical issue at home like a light that stopped working, or a breaker that keeps tripping, we can fix it for you. We offer very affordable rates for small jobs. It's nice to take care of nagging little electrical issues without breaking the bank.
